Here are some safety tips to be aware of:
Hot Parts – The compressor head will get hot during operation, so dont touch it while it is running and shortly thereafter. You can get burned seriously.
Flammable Vapors – Under normal operation, the compressor and pressure switch may spark when the compressor starts or stops. Flammable liquids can ignite, causing a fire or explosion. Always operate your compressor in a well ventilated area away from paint spraying areas and solvent or gasoline fumes.
Air Tank -
-
Do not modify an air compressor to reach higher pressures.
-
Do not adjust or modify the pressure switch or safety valve.
-
If a part needs to be replaced, make sure one of the same type and rating is used.
-
Do not replace the motor with one that has a higher horsepower rating.
-
Never drill into or weld anything to the air tank. This can weaken the tank and cause it to explode.
-
Also, welds to the tank can rust and corrode over time, causing leaks and eventual failure.
-
If replacement is necessary, return the unit to an authorized service center for repair.
Compressed Air – Compressed air can be dangerous when blowing off dirt and debris from your work. Particles flying through the air can cause damage and serious injury. Never point a spray nozzle toward a person or anything fragile. Always wear safety goggles when using compressed air. Too much air pressure to air tools can damage them. Make sure that you dont exceed the manufacturers pressure rating of the air tool that you are using.
Electricity – If your compressor is powered by electricity, it can cause electrical shock if not used properly. Always unplug the air compressor prior to repair or maintenance. Never use the compressor outside in the rain. Always plug the compressor into an electrical outlet with the proper voltage rating and adequate fuse protection. Inspect the cord and plug before each use. Dont use if there are signs of damage. Never use a ground eliminating adapter.
Toxic Vapors – Compressed air may contain toxic or irritating vapors. Such vapors cam be harmful if inhaled. Read all labels and follow all safety precautions that come with any materials that you may be spraying. Dont directly inhale the compressed air from the output of the compressor. Make sure you are wearing a respirator or mask if there is a chance of inhaling sprayed materials. Read the instructions that come with mask and respirators carefully, as they have limitations and only provide protection against some kinds of toxic materials.
